The region of the upper atmosphere in which the concentration of ozone is high and it has a dominant effect on the radioactive balance of the atmosphere; it is generally between 6 and 30 miles, or 10 to 15 kilometers above the earth, containing a maximum ozone concentration at 12 to 15 miles, or 20 to 25 kilometers.
