| | Definition: Metal Halide Lamp -
A high-intensity discharge lamp in which light is generated by adding metal halide salts to a discharge tube containing a high-pressure arc in mercury vapor. The added metals produce different wavelengths, and give substantially white light at an efficiency similar to that of high-pressure sodium lamps. Metal halide lamps have a wide range of uses, including lighting stages and sports arenas.
