| | Definition: Gray Code -
A modified binary block code in which there are 2 to the nth codewords, with each codeword having a length of n bits and differing from the preceding codeword by the complementation of a single bit. Gray codes are used in encoding the positions of devices, such as shafts and wheels, in order to counter the problems that would arise when several digits were supposed to change simultaneously. Synonyms: grey code, reflected binary code, reflective code |
