A polymer extruder in which polymer material is fed into a fixed gap between a stationary and rotating plate. The material then melts due to frictional heat and flows in a spiral path toward then center of rotation and finally is discharge through an orifice or die. Rubbery polymers with specific viscoelastic properties are the only polymers suited for this process.
