Summary of Expertise:
Listed with other top experts in: |
Expert has a broad expertise in modeling physical systems. This includes characterization of dynamics e.g. in terms of differential equations, and then solving the equations theoretically or numerically. These skills have been applied to problems in engineering such as propagation of EM fields. Expert's modeling expertize also includes characterization of optimization problems e.g. in terms of objective functions to be extremized, and then developing theoretical or numerical techniques for finding the maxima or minima. He has applied these skills to pattern-recognition and model matching in automatic image analysis for example.

Applied Statistics Expert's present work includes theoretical and subsequent numerical (computer) modeling of the dynamics of apparatus to perform various physics experiments. The data analysis involves signal processing for extraction of a tiny signal from a very noisy environment. Techniques include matched filters, Fourier analysis, applied statistics of various kinds, and multivariate optimization.
Computer Vision, Image Processing & Pattern Recognition Expert designed systems, composed algorithms, and wrote computer code - mostly in C and C++ - for computer vision. Applications included (automatic) medical MRI and Xray image analysis, robot vision and robot
guidance, and optical inspection. Techniques included pattern recognition, machine learning, and basic image processing. The robot vision included autonomous vehicle navigation utilizing structure from motion and binocular vision. The medical image analysis included image segmentation using various statistical techniques, including Bayesian probability, maximum likelihood, maximum entropy, simulated annealing, and analysis of variance.
Some of his algorithms are patented and in use in hospitals throughout the world.

Electromagnetism and Special Relativity: Fundamental Theory and Mathematics of Propagation Expert has a PhD in propagation of EM fields, especially lasers, in non-linear media and in waveguides. He has written several papers on classical and quantum EM theory and special relativity, including novel extensions to the standard theory. He is a reviewer for Mathematical Reviews, writing short reviews of papers in particular on special relativity and electromagnetic theory. Currently Expert is a theoretician for a research group with an emphasis on performing experimental tests of novel theories of gravity and electromagnetic theory.
