He has 25 years experience in data analysis primarily involving analytical chemical data analysis, often called chemometrics. Application areas include biology (e.g. metabolomics of humans and mice, microbiology), medical applications (e.g. TB analysis in breath, salival analysis in dentistry), pharmaceuticals (multivariate process control and chromatography), environmental asessment including safety, materials characterisation (plastics) and forensics etc. He has worked with numerous organisations including GlaxoSmithKline, Health and Safety Executive, Bookham, Sirius Technology, Darpa, Local Council in UK, IMass Spec Analysis (a forensic company), Triton Technoloogy (plastics analysis), International Environmental Monitoring Project, Draper Labs (US) among others. His main expertise is the handling and analysis of complex multivariate data that can be obtained from automated instruments including most types of chromatography, mass spectrometry, nmr, various types of optical spectroscopy (IR and uv), thermal analysis, fluorescence. Over the past few years he has focussed on pattern recognition and signal processing. He has given evidence in court including the UK High Court and Court of Appeal.
