International Arbitration relating to disputes over flue gas desulphurisation equipment fitted to power station.Expert gave evidence on mechanical failure of components of the plant. This involved collecting and reviewing information, carrying out calculations and preparing a report. The evidence was presented in the hearing and Expert was examined and cross-examined on it.

Personal injury resulting from explosion of pressurised equipment offshore.Expert considered the evidence in the light of regulations and health and safety issues. Failed components were examined and a report prepared. She attended meetings with solicitors and advocates. The case settled out of court.

Expert was appointed to witness the dismantling of a failed mud pump at a factory in Italy. This independent inspection enabled the parties to agree a way forward and a settlement of the dispute.

Perth Crematorium, Scotland.As a result of new legislation, improved cremators had to be fitted. Expert acted as the consulting engineer by carrying out the design work, preparing specifications and tender documentation, advising the client on choice of contractor and supervising the installation and performance testing.

Expert has delivered a CPD seminar 'Dialogue with an Engineer' to several firms of solicitors in Scotland and England. This explores the ways in which an engineer can assist at various stages of a dispute and what information the engineer requires. Examples and case studies are presented.

Other Skills and Services
Mediation. In 2003 Expert qualified as a commercial mediator with the Academy of Experts in London. Since then she has been on the panel of the Sheriff Court mediation schemes in Edinburgh and Glasgow and on the panel of Catalyst mediation. She is listed on the Scottish Mediation Register for business and commercial, court and workplace mediation. Expert has assisted with several mediations for Catalyst, both commercial and employment disputes. She has been lead and assistant mediator on many Sheriff Court mediations covering a very wide variety of disputes. As part of the mediation accreditation she completes regular mediation training with various organisations.
