Expert is board certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine as well as the College of Canadian Family Physicians. He received his MD from McGill University in 1989 and completed his resident training in family medicine in 1991 at St. Mary's Hospital, Montreal, Quebec. He practiced as a Primary Care Physician for 3 years before practicing as an inpatient and outpatient care and emergency care as a family physician and attending staff until 2000. In 2000, he began to a special focus on diabetes and obesity management as a family physician and continues today to focus on diabetes and weight loss as a practicing family physician. Expert has been teaching in the area of nutrition for almost 10 years at a major university. Some of his previous research interests have been in the area of folic acid and homocysteine, as well as specific diet therapies for treating obesity. Expert has run a successful, multi-disciplinary weight loss group and currently publishes a quarterly nutrition newsletter that covers all areas of nutrition. He has been interviewed on numerous radio talk-shows and news channels and featured on numerous newspaper articles regarding his knowledge on nutrition, dieting and obesity. He has given numerous lectures and presentations at various universities nationwide regarding nutrition, obesity prevention and treatment as well as weight loss maintenance and management. DIET (Diet therapy, dietary supplement, dieting, weight loss): Expert's expertise involve understanding and presenting various weight loss diets - why they work and why they fail, involuntary weight loss, OTC weight loss pills (prescription controversies), understanding the signs and symptoms of weight change, educating and supporting programs for improved diet and weight management for community dwelling adults with intellectual disabilities, and numerous other topics related to various aspects of dieting and weight loss. He is also familiar with the process of planning and implementing group weight loss programs. OBESITY (bariatrics, treatment, anti-obesity agent): Expert has experience working on cases involving pediatric obesity, preventing obesity, treating obese patients, Type 2 diabetes, diabetes management, nutrition and childhood obesity, overweight and obesity management for primary care clinicians, current trends and practice of obesity, chronic disease management of obesity, and other specific topics concerning obesity management and prevention. NUTRITION (clinical nutrition, human nutrition, infant nutrition, sports nutrition, nutrition assessment, nutrition disorder, nutrition labeling): Expert has experience in teaching and/or treating patients with cases involving nutrition such as the role of nutrition in preventing cancer, organic food, nutrition in pregnancy, fish and fish oils - the health risks and benefits, simple nutrition, antioxidants, nutritional benefits of drinks, snack bars and nutrition, medication and drug interaction in nutrition, disease prevention regarding nutrition, evaluating the adolescent calorie/fat menu at fast food restaurants compared to other restaurants, travel nutrition, and nutrition for children (particularly for their growing brains). He has also developed and published an integrated nutrition curriculum for medical students and nutritional education in the undergraduate medical curriculum. ANEMIA (nutritional anemia, iron-deficiency, folic acid deficiency): He has published and researched various vitamin deficiencies, nutritional anemia, fat-soluble vitamins, homocysteine, vitamins and heart disease and several other cases concerning anemia and vitamin deficiencies.
