Expert is a clinical professor at the University of California, Berkeley specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma. Expert also serves as Director of Glaucoma Services at the East Bay Eye Center in San Ramon, California. Expert received his medical degree with honors from the University of California, San Diego then completed an internship in internal medicine at a Stanford affiliate hospital, before returning to UCSD for his residency in Ophthalmology, serving as chief resident in 1992-93. Expert continued his post-residency training and specialization at Baylor Medical Center, where he completed a clinical fellowship in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma with Dr. Ron Gross. Expert is on the scientific review board for Ophthalmology, American Journal of Ophthalmology and Archives of Ophthalmology. Expert has over 100 journal articles, abstracts, posters and book chapters to his credit and has participated in numerous FDA III and IV clinical trials. He has given over 500 invited presentations worldwide, including several addresses to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and has received the Lange Medical Research Award, several University teaching awards and letters of accommodation from many Eye Societies, including Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong. Expert has served numerous times for expert testimony in glaucoma, cataract and refractive surgical areas, and has been a paid consultant in pharmaceutical, medical device, and LASIK business ventures. Expert is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Glaucoma Society.
