He has worked for the last nine years in the field of chronic disease epidemiology, studying the distribution of chronic diseases in the population and risk factors. He obtained a PhD in epidemiology, with a focus on nutrition and cardiovascular disease, did postdoctoral research in neuroepidemiology and currently his works focuses in cardiovascular and neurological disorders. He is coauthor in several dozens of papers on chronic disease epidemiology, including effects of drugs on risk of disease (multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), the effect of diet and nutrition on cardiovascular disorders (hypertension, atrial fibrillation), and the link between cardiovascular and neurodegenerative disorders, including dementia. Additionally, he has worked on the development and application of epidemiologic and biostatistical methods to medical and health research. He has worked with clinicians in the hospital setting, exploring the effectiveness of biomarkers, diagnostic techniques, and genetic factors useful for the diagnosis, treatment and risk stratification of patients. He has extensive experience in the statistical analysis of large pharmacoepidemiologic clinical databases, patients databases, and health-related data in general. Additionally, by training (MPH, PhD, residency), he has a broad general knowledge of the public health field.
