Expert has over 27 years of industrial pulsed power experience working on a variety of pulse generators/power systems and rep-rated modulators to deliver high voltages (kV and MV levels) and high average power levels (kW to MW). These systems have varied from highly specialized/customized single quantity systems to modules/systems that were mass produced (1000's of units) to support extremely demanding applications such as semiconductor photolithography. His expertise is primarily in HV power systems utilizing solid-state switching and magnetic pulse compression to deliver very fast risetime HV pulses for applications such as gas discharge lasers, etc. Other capabilities include solid-state, magnetic, line-type, and hard tube modulators for pulse generation. He has successfully utilized Marx generator and pulse transformer technology to obtain voltage multiplication and output voltages of > 1 MV. He is well versed in the following HV switching technologies including: IGBTs, SCRs, MOSFETs, spark gaps, thyratrons, ignitrons, and vacuum tubes. Pulse forming/shaping and risetime sharpening techniques can be employed to achieve the specific pulse parameters required by the application. He has experience with a number of different HV charging technologies including resonant charging, pulse charging, phase control, and high frequency switching power supply systems. He is capable of developing high voltage and pulsed power diagnostics and control/interlock/interface electronics. By optimizing the system electrical insulation design, he can customize the system mechanical design and packaging for minimum size and weight. He also specializes in printed circuit board design and layout for high voltage and power applications. He is well acquainted with using QuickField FEA software for modeling electric fields for high voltage insulation and component design as well as thermal modeling and electronics cooling system design (e.g. forced liquid/air).
