Over the past 20 years he has done extensive research on the history of drug discovery, drug development, drug registration, and the use of psychopharmaceuticals in medical practice. Among the documents he has collected are the virtually complete set of transcripts of the FDA's Psychopharmacologic Drug Advisory Committee (going back to the 1970s and obtained through the Freedom of Information Act), as well as a vast collection of material from FDA internal correspondence, obtained in numerous research trips to the National Archives and Records Administration. These two collections are unique, and, together with a comprehensive knowledge of the development of psychiatry and psychopharmacology, form the basis of his expertise.
