Expert started her career as a medical/surgical and hematology/oncology nurse working at A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE, in 1998. She received her master's degree in (clinical nurse specialist and nurse practitioner) pediatrics from the University of Delaware in 2002. She went on to take a position at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, Pa and Dr. Carlton Dampier who is now the medical director of research at Emory University. She functioned as a pediatric nurse practitioner at the Marian Expert Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center to now over 500 patients.
