Summary of Expertise:
Listed with other top experts in: |
He has extended expertise in advanced geometrical as well as wave optics as evidenced by years of successful optical design experience using industry-standard ZEMAX and OSLO optical design packages.
Expert's experience in biomedical imaging is based on two years of rigorous research and development efforts at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine / Department of Physics. While at Upenn, he learned imaging related to the radiation oncology DICOM standard as well as designed a multispectral spectroscopic imaging system for studies of optical properties of tissues in vivo. Significant part of his experience at Upenn was writing NIH proposal for a multimillon funding for PDT dosimetry research.
While with the University of Pennsilvania, he developed a fiber-optics based method of measurement of blood oxygen saturation organs during debulking cancer surgery in vivo.
Example of his knowledge of Coherent lasers are the tunable, low bandwidth dye 899 and 699 lasers, as well as the Ti:Sph laser built on the same base, as well as a family of Coherent Ar+++ lasers. The tunable dye lasers are one of the most advanced and difficult to maintain lasers in the industry.
Expert did extensive computer modeling of optical aberrations and light scattering / propagation phenomena. He created a model that allowed to map optical aberrations of lenses without the use of phase-sensitive imaging techniques, as well as a Boltzman simulated annealing model of light propagation in tissues. The latter allowed for determination of organs drug concentration in vivo.
While with Advent Optronics, he lead a group of engineers in development of advances computer vision-based test and robotics systems. These devices, such as testers for MEMS-based optical switches, were developed, delivered and installed at customer factory floors.
Development of computer-based, automated data acquisition and analysis systems is one of his major areas of expertise. Expert has been developing the data acquisition / analysis systems using LabVIEW and MATLAB environments almost since the very appearance of those in 1994. Examples include, but not limited to, automation of spectrometers / lasers while doing his Ph.D. thesis work at Temple University, processing of large volumes of imaging data at University of Pennsylvania and at Cymer Inc.
During last four years, Expert's primary responsibility is electrooptical system design. This includes requirements development using DOORS environment, actual optics design using Zemax, electronics component specification and conceptual design of major mechanical components. This work resulted in successful development of electrooptical communication imager for Navy as well as electrooptical imaging device for Airforce.
He has designed a Twyman-Green interferometer-based instrument for measuring quality of intraocular lenses. Prototype of such device, with original, robust phase-unwrapping mechanism, was tested at Advent Optronics Corp. in 2003.
Expert's experience with lasers goes above usual. He has in-depth knowledge of tunable dye laser design and issues, as well as expertise in lithographic XLA-100 and XLA-105 lasers developed by Cymer gained while working for this company as a System Scientist. His most recent expertise relates to the design and specification of compact, high-power IR solid state pulsed laser.
While with Expert's Firm 9formerly Apogen Technologies), Expert developed original optical designs for a range of high NA, high resolution telescopes and imagers, including an afocal anamorphic beam expanders, for free space telecom applications.
He is an expert manager of a result-oriented product development and/or R&D team. Based on basic project goals and financial constrains, he leads the team through the design process using appropriate design review meetings for key decisions and progress monitoring. This way, the design process is always transparent for the upper management, problem areas are flagged early and mitigation measures can be deployed in a timed fashion.
