He growing up on a farm raising peanuts, hay, vegetables, fruits and pecans stimulated an interest in agriculture. Therefore he attended Texas A&M and received a degree in Agronomy.
Then he went to work for the Soil Conservation Service advising farmers in there crop production, soil erosion and wind erosion. Working for 30 years for the SCS.
After retiring the state of Texas called him to see if he would work for them writing Nutrient Management Plans for animal feeding operations. He did this for about 12 years. Now he does some consulting work and is on call for the Department of Defense to work for them on a short period of time if we have a disaster that needs his expertise to help people get back into production agriculture or take care of hazardous materials.
During his career he has worked with most crops grown, the equipment it takes to grow them, and how to control the runoff from the land. During his time with SCS he worked for about 10 years in the plant materials field doing taxonomy work, gathering seed, growing plants, evaluation of plants, and getting plants to foundation grower. |
