Expert has expertise in lighting technology, particularly lamps, ballasts, and fixtures. He developed the first compact fluorescent lamp now on permanent display at Smithsonian Institute. He is extremely knowledgeable of electronic and electromagnetic ballasts and how they are used to control the starting and operation of gaseous discharge lamps such as fluorescent and high intensity discharge lamps. He has expertise in these ballasts and lamps as well as lighting fixtures and how they are used for general lighting as well as specialty lighting applications. Expert is expert in the attributes and considerations for designing any fluorescent and/or HID lamp source. He has expertise in designing, evaluating, and analyzing electronic ballast compatibility along with the requirements for installation into the commercial lighting fixtures. Expert discusses the physics, chemistry, and electrical aspects of a lighting system in much detail so that root cause of a problem can be more easily identified. His areas of interest include energy savings, performance estimates of light output and lamp life, warranty and liability considerations as well as patent litigation issues. Ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) applications are also areas of his expertise. Knowledge of IEC and ANSI standards is used in determining compliance to the various safety and environmental regulations. Expert has about 45 patents with General Electric Company and about 40 published papers with IEEE and IESNA. He is a Fellow of FIEEE and is a Fellow of FIESNA. He won the Edison Gold Medal in 2001 for achievements in lighting. |
