Expert was responsible for physical design, analysis, and environmental testing of a satellite-based payload with responsibility for budget and schedule. He provided technical sustaining engineering to follow-on to United Defense's Electronic Fighting Vehicle System (EFVS) Mast program. He designed and analyzed a complex, high density, high-powered VME card file chassis with superior cooling capacity. He provided management and hands-on technical leadership for the Magic Mast™ business area. He was responsible for development of the EFVS and other mast programs. He provided sustaining engineering for the PATRIOT, TRAILBLAZER, and MEWSS production mast systems for mobile DOD programs resulting in budget underruns. He supervised mechanical engineers. He directed and participated in the development of light and heavy-duty composite telescopic masts on IR&D and contract programs. He received a U.S. patent for a mechanically erected telescopic mast. He developed sophisticated spreadsheet programs to design and analyze mast performance. He provided technical support to quick-erecting mast marketing by performing trade-off studies, writing white papers, developing conceptual designs of mast systems, analyzing mast performance, and giving presentations.

He managed XMR's largest single contract, a $1.4M sub-contract for laser enclosures and power supplies for a government funded alexandrite laser system, resulting in a $100k underrun. He was placed as Program Manager at request of customer after managing the proposal effort as a consultant to XMR. He also acted in positions of program mechanical engineer and contracts officer. He supervised and organized design drafting section. He directed the successful implementation of a centralized computer system for accounting, purchasing, inventory, and parts lists. He organized and streamlined the proposal department, resulting in increased credibility of quoting practices, which passed government audits.

Expert provided all technical support to marketing and sales. He provided conceptual designs, quotations, and customer presentations for all custom CO2 laser-based industrial systems. He set up and organized ILD's proposal capability. He designed and built an esthetic and functional laser-based workstation for exhibit in a major Midwest tool show within six weeks. He worked in the Systems Department as a Program Manager for four custom CO2 laser-based systems, resulting in customer satisfaction and profit on all programs. Customers were FMC, IBM, ALCOA, and Rockwell International.

Engineering Specialist

 

He directed efforts of five engineers and ten design drafters in design and packaging of the original AN/WLR-4(V) Electronic Surveillance Measures (ESM) system in U.S. Navy submarines. He reduced space of digital racks from two to one. Expert also directed construction of two massive reinforced concrete antenna foundations in a remote overseas site, within budget and schedule under severe weather, labor and equipment conditions. He headed an emergency tiger team to solve a critical solder joint failure problem on a satellite-based module resulting in successful elimination of failures. Expert performed mechanical packaging, thermal design and analysis of power modules for the original AN/MLQ-34 (TACJAM) jamming system for the U.S. Army, permitting a significant increase in output power. In addition, Expert provided thermal and acoustic noise design and analysis for all units and racks of the AN/WLR-8 ESM system for employment in U.S. Navy submarines and surface vessels. He successfully met stringent acoustic noise limits while meeting challenging cooling requirements. Responsible M.E. for a computer controlled receiver system housed in two 40' trailer vans, the R-47 receiver for utilization in U.S. Navy aircraft. He designed and built feed antenna rotators and composite material boom for offset parabolic dish antennas. He designed and built a rotating feed antenna system with six interchangeable antennas for in-house anechoic test chamber; the unit was in service for over 20 years.
