He developed commercially used heterogeneous catalysts for the processes. He also developed information to allow scale-up and commercialization of the processes and participated in process improvements. He has designed, synthesized, and aided in process development of amine detergents used in cumulative amounts of several hundred million pounds for gasoline detergents. polyoxyalkylene amines, 3-aminopropyl amines, and heterocyclic amines, like morpholine and piperazine, are among the most important examples.
