Expert has extensive experience with chemical plant troubleshooting based upon his cross-discipline training and experience. He feels it is important to first isolate the area in which the problem exists. This may require the use of a team of specific experts from plant design through production and shipping. This is generally not available for small companies and may be awkward and costly for a large company. Expert is able to look across the disciplines and concentrate on the area where the problem probably exists, as well as frequently contributing to the specific solution. His troubleshooting skills are a result of his training and experience. When Expert was obtaining his Ph.D. in organic chemistry, he used his synthetic, theoretical, and analytical skills. In his work experience prior to his employment at SACHEM, Expert was involved with the electrochemical smelting of aluminum and chemical refining of the bauxite ore and surfactant synthesis and evaluation. During the rest of his professional career, he developed his cross-discipline training. He developed R & D processes and techniques; provided technical support and trouble shooting to the main production department at the second location; and applied statistical analysis to plant and lab processes. He also provided customer support by visiting customer sites and traveled with marketing. Expert also co-designed and developed a commercial electrochemical process; built the first electrochemical production unit including operating the pilot and commercial unit; participated in the transfer of technology to a new plant constructed at a second location; made substantial design changes to a second electrochemical production process; and developed and carried out necessary analytical procedures, including specifying and buying state of the art equipment. He was involved in providing high purity chemicals to the electronics industry and handled quaternary ammonium salts including hydroxides and phase transfer catalysts.

Expert was responsible for synthesis and analytical R&D, pilot demonstration, trouble shooting on the production level, and customer support. In addition to conventional chemistry, two electrochemical processes were initiated and brought to production, one of which is currently producing material used in the electronics industry with metal contents at the ppt level. He led the team that was responsible for providing analytical support for that process that culminated in the installation of an ICP-MS in a clean room. His most recent duties were providing technical support to SACHEM's main production facility. When Expert started with SACHEM, he was one of eight employees. At the time of his retirement, total employees approached 100.

Publications and Patents Summary
He has three patents from Jefferson Chemical and six from SACHEM. Most of the time at SACHEM his work was proprietary and patents were not sought.
|
| Selected Consulting Examples: |
-
After retiring from SACHEM in 1999, he spent a year providing technical assistance (four days/month) to the production department at SACHEM's main plant. Troubleshooting and process optimization were the main activities.
-
During calendar year 2000, Expert provided chemical consulting for a machine shop and setting up a chemical passivation system for medical tools and human orthopedic replacement parts.
-
After SACHEM sold several small parts of its business to another specialty chemical company, he traveled to their site and assisted in the transfer of technical data and setting up a polarographic analysis for the product.
-
While employed at SACHEM, he provided customer support. Expert flew to a customer's site and found the source of analytical variation in their primary assay of SACHEM's product.
