Expertise Description:

adhesion science expert

thermosetting adhesive formulation expert

two-part adhesive expert

Expert has directed courses in adhesives for the past 33 years including lectures on fundamentals, theory, joint design, surface preparation, testing, adhesive families, and choosing adhesives. He has consulted with many companies on the choice, application, and testing of adhesives. He has found the cause of adhesive failures and instituted corrections involving changes in adhesives, surface preparation, adhesive application, and curing procedures. He has served as an expert witness in cases involving adhesive failures and non-release of materials. He has also written written articles and presented papers on several aspects of the adhesion industry.

adhesive application expert

In his primary positions, he has been responsible for specifying the application methods and equipment. It was his responsibility to buy the equipment, supervise the installation, and train the personnel to use it.

adhesive compounding expert

He has formulated compounds, primarily two part epoxies, urethanes, and silicones, to meet specific needs of users and suppliers.

adhesive selection expert

Selecting the appropriate adhesive has been an integral part of his industrial career. This includes adhesion of glass, ceramics, metals, plastics, and elastomers.

electrically conductive polymer expert

conductive coating expert

conductive polymer selection expert

He has developed and applied electrically conductive polymers in industrial situations for the past 35 years. He developed a line of electrical connectors using conductive filled silicones that have become industry standards. They are used widely in connections to liquid crystal displays, printed wiring boards, flexible circuits and others. They are used extensively in equipment such as digital watches, calculators, cell phones, computors, test eqipment, hard drives, and airplane instruments. He has also developed conductive materials for coatings, hot melt adhesives, thermosetting contacts, circuit paths, and other electrical applications. In addition, he has given full-day lectures for the past 15 years on the theory, materials, fillers, applications, and compounding of electrically conductive polymers. He has used base polymers such as epoxies, polyurethanes, silicones, acrylics, polyesters, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene and polycarbonate. He has used fillers such as carbon black, graphite fibers, silver flakes and powder, nickel flakes and powder, gold powder, tin, conductive ceramics, aluminum and copper. He has also used silver coated nickel, aluminum, glass beads, glass flake, glass fibers and gold-plated carbon black.

electronic encapsulation expert

epoxy encapsulation expert

Many of Expert's professional activities have been involved in electronic encapsulation. He has presented a course in this field for the past 25 years, in the United States and Europe. The course contents include description of the encapsulants, applications, equipment and processes, testing, encapsulant selection, product design, and production problems. This course also covers microelectronic packaging. He has consulted and given courses to companies producing power supplies, integrated circuit chips, coils, motors, watches, and other products.

parylene coating material expert

parylene conformal coating expert

He has worked directly with the inventors of Parylene and has had them speak at his courses. He has used Parylene in applications since 1965 and periodcally visited the laboratories where the material was developed. He has been in touch with the companies that coat Parylene and those that supply the equipment.

polymer testing expert

He taught Polymer Testing at the New Jersey Institute for Technology for 13 years. He wrote the chapter on polymer testing in the "Handbook of Plastic Materials and Technology." He has developed custom test procedures for a variety of properties not addressed in standard compilations. For his PhD thesis, he developed and used methods employing Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Thermal Gravimetric Analysis, and electrical analysis to determine crystallinity.
