Expert was instrumental in the commercial development of Thermax insulation products for a major building materials corporation. He was responsible for research technical service and achieving market acceptances for these highly efficient plastic foam insulation boards through product applications and construction systems development. He is extremely knowledgeable regarding several types of Thermax products such as polymer stucco wall systems, roof, wall, and floor sheathings and underlayments, acoustical ceiling panels and fire-rated products and systems, roof insulation products and systems, and vermiculite insulating concretes and fire-resistant plasters. He has conducted approvals testing for acoustic performance, fire endurance, flame spread ratings, and thermal insulation performances. Additionally, he has resolved field installation problems and customer complaints. He has worked with commercial and farm buildings using zonolite vermiculite concrete (cement) and plasters (clay, gypsum) for fire protection requirements.

For ASTM's Committee C16, he is a past chairman of its Subcommittee C16.22 on Organic and Non-homogeneous Inorganic Thermal Insulations. Additionally, he is the task group chairman responsible for the 2002 issuance of ASTM C1289-02 "Standard Specification for Faced Rigid Cellular Polyisocyanurate Thermal Insulation Board." Currently he is working on revisions to ASTM C1029, "Standard Specification for Spray-applied Rigid Cellular Polyurethane Thermal Insulation" and related standards, and a new material standard in C24.61 on aerosol foam sealants. Expert is a voting member of the Building Environment and Thermal Envelope Council, which is affiliated with the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS). Expert is the chairman of the Materials Research Coordinating Committee of BETEC, a member of its Board of Direction and organizer and moderator of its Nov. '95 symposium on "Superinsulations for the Building Envelope" (proceedings published/issued 5/96).
