Expert has conducted research on the phase behavior of commercially-available and pure anionic and nonionic surfactants and their ability to form liquid crystals and microemulsions in the presence of either water, oil, salt, or alcohol. The effects of these additives on phase behavior, rheology, and interfacial tensions have been studied and discussed in several of her presentations and publications.

Expert has conducted research on the use of surfactants for recovering oil through the formation of liquid crystalline and microemulsion phases. These were studied using phase behavior, optical microscopy, viscosity, and interfacial tension analyses.
