Summary of Expertise:
Listed with other top experts in: |
Expert has had many years of experience in machine design. This has included machine life analysis and the design of DC motors, hydraulic systems, fasteners, bearings, compact transmission systems, and couplings. He has designed and built several robotic systems under various federal contracts. He has been teaching several graduate and undergraduate design courses at the Expert's University.
Expert has extensive knowledge of the control of mechanical and manufacturing processes. His areas of expertise are multivariable control, nonlinear control, and process control. He has developed various control algorithms for robotic systems. He has taught several graduate and undergraduate courses on various topics in control theory and application.
Expert's substantial experience in robotics includes robot kinematics, robot dynamics and control, telerobotic systems, vibrations, motor design, sensor design, force control, and trajectory control. He has designed and built several direct-drive/non-direct-drive multi-degree-of-freedom hydraulic/electric robotic systems under various federal contracts. He has also designed and built several exoskeletons. These are robotic systems worn by humans to increase human mechanical ability. In such a device, the human intellect serves as the central control for manipulating the exoskeleton. Expert holds several U.S. patents on his robotics designs.
Expert has developed several control algorithms which prevent human induced instability in exoskeletons, hand controllers, and telerobotic systems. He has conducted projects under NASA contracts on human-machine interaction issues related to telerobotic systems.
Expert has designed and built active exercise machines which may be programmed to give the human arm a sensation of the forces associated with various arbitrary maneuvers. For example, these machines can give the human the sensation that he/she is maneuvering a mass or pushing onto a spring or a damper. Generally, the machines may be programmed for any trajectory-dependent force.
Expert has considerable knowledge of automated robotic deburring and grinding. He has developed two robotic deburring cells which deburr the part edges automatically. He has designed and built several passive and active end-effectors for robotic metal removal processes. He currently is designing a robotic deburring cell for Samsung, Inc.
Expert has had broad experience in the dynamics, control, and design of valves and various hydraulic rotary and linear actuators. He has designed and built several hydraulic robotic systems and has conducted several projects on system identification and control of hydraulic actuation systems. His latest work on hydraulics has resulted in a six-degree-of-freedom hydraulic robotic system. He has taught a course in hydraulic design and control.
