Expertise Description:

engine design expert

four-stroke cycle engine expert

heavy-duty engine expert

internal combustion engine expert

internal combustion engine combustion chamber expert

internal combustion engine combustion chamber design expert

internal combustion engine compression ratio expert

spark-ignition engine expert

preignition expert

Expert has spent over 40 years in the design, development, manufacturing, and application of four cycle spark ignition engines for light duty vehicles and heavy duty trucks and busses. He has performed and directed studies on the combustion process and related exhaust pollutants when consuming gasoline, alcohols, natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas, and a variety of fuel additives. He has examined abnormal combustion in the forms of knock, detonation and preignition. Expert has placed major emphases on power development, efficiency, reliability, and durability. His experience in engine development spans medium and heavy duty trucks and buses, as well as racing cars.

automotive emission control expert

automotive emissions-control technology expert

automotive exhaust expert

automotive regulatory compliance expert

evaporative emission product expert

internal combustion engine pollution control expert

Expert participated in and managed the creation and development of exhaust and evaporative emission control technologies for a major automotive and truck manufacturer. His work focused on combustion chambers and basic engine design parameters as well as the ancillary systems such as exhaust gas recirculation, induction systems, and ignition controls. Aftertreatment systems included thermal reactors, oxidizing and three way catalytic converters, air injection, and sensors. Expert's fuel metering activities dealt with single, two, and four barrel carburetors, as well as electrically managed fuel injection with closed loop feedback control.

corporate-average fuel economy statute expert

exhaust emission regulation expert

mobile-source air pollution control regulation expert

automotive gasoline-engine emission-control specification expert

vehicle air-pollution test procedure expert

heavy-duty engine emission test procedure expert

For more than a decade Expert managed the exhaust/evaporative emission and fuel economy certification and compliance requirements for a major vehicle producer and for several small volume manufacturers. He spoke as an industrial expert witness at numerous government hearings on these issues. In addition to his familiarity with the legislation, and with regulatory codes governing corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) and vehicle emissions, he is knowledgeable in testing laboratory procedures and measurement equipment. He is also experienced with production quality monitoring of emissions as well as in-use compliance procedures and reporting obligations.

hydraulic engineering expert

Expert has a broad range of experience in the design and development of numerous types of fluid and hydraulic systems. Vehicle applications include cooling systems, engine lubrication, fuel systems, automatic transmission power and control networks, power steering, and hydraulic powered accessories. Expert's stationary system work has included both single station and transfer line machine tools, water distribution for heat transfer, and automated material handling lines. He has worked with a wide variety of hydrostatic and hydrodynamic pumps, fluid motors, and control valves. His work has included problem resolution relating to cavitation and aeration, noise generation, high frequency pressure pulsation, system efficiency, and energy losses.

vehicle behavior expert

The development of automobiles, trucks and racing cars have provided Expert with a broad base of experience in vehicle propulsion systems and performance dynamics. He can define powertrain specifications and perform analytical procedures to predict how engine performance and powertrain details will affect vehicle acceleration, terminal speed, gradeability, and altitude limits.

vehicle performance evaluation expert

vehicle performance dynamics modeling expert

Expert has done performance predictive modeling for standard and high performance automobile, conventional, and armored limousines, large busses, trucks, and railed vehicles. He developed a computer program for prediction and analysis. His studies include the effects of road grade, wind temperature, and altitude. Additionally, Expert developed simulation models for vehicle parameters for which data is sparse.

acceleration expert

Expert developed a software program for predicting wheeled vehicles' acceleration profiles up to limiting speed. The program also estimates vehicle fuel economy based on EPA city and highway driving cycles. Expert notes that acceleration is varied in accordance with numerous vehicle specifications, the weather, altitude, terrain, road surface conditions, and tire tractive limits.
