Expert is an expert in the various aspects of polymer chemistry. He is an authority on thermoplastic compositions including polyolefins, vinyls, and styrenics. He is extremely knowledgeable of coatings, adhesives, and elastomers as well as polymer modification, compounding, process and product development. He is also very experienced in conducting additive evaluations, as well as environmental, solar thermal, and photovoltaic studies.
Expert has expertise in selecting the proper plastic for specific applications. His research on the effect of polymer structure on properties has led to many applications as well as several publications.
Expert has devoted considerable effort to developing a broad variety of ethylene copolymers and the application of these copolymers as adhesives, coatings, and elastomers. This work has led to several patents as well as commercially successful products.
A significant portion of Expert's work has involved the modification of polymers for specific applications through compounding. He has developed several commercial materials using fillers and reinforcements. The range of products was further extended via plastic alloying and crosslinking.
Expert has consulted extensively on weather degradation and materials that would resist hostile weather. He has developed weather-resistant formulations for bridge paints and plastics for lawnmowers and house siding. During an association with the Department of Energy and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Expert developed a 20-year life span for a ethylene copolymer encapsulant used in a silicon photovoltaic cell.
In a series of contracts with the Manufacturing Chemists Association, Expert investigated the disposal, incineration, and recycling of nonhazardous solid wastes. His research in these areas resulted in the publication of two books.
