EQUILIBRIUM THERMODYNAMICS; LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS. Expert formulated and was co-principal investigator of a comprehensive, multi-year study to produce an extensive database of defined, high accuracy, and predictive models for equilibrium liquid densities of natural gas components and mixtures of specific composition (prepared gravimetrically).

CRYOGENIC MIXTURE PHYSICAL ADSORPTION. Expert researched the effects of gas mixture non-indealities on the removal of minor impurity components (nitrogen, methane, carbon monoxide) from a flowing high-pressure gas stream (hydrogen, helium). He expanded the effort to examine properties of the adsorbed phase of each component for several adsorbents as well as kinetic effects. Much of the results could be used directly in gas purification equipment design.

Expert is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Chemical Society, and the AAAS.

He served on the Editorial Board for "Review of Scientific Instruments" from 1980-82 and for "Fluid Phase Equilibria" from 1976-1987. He has also been Chairman of the NBS Hydrogen Safety Committee.

In 1979, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Cryogenic Engineering Conference Board, and the Sustained Superior Performance Award from the Department of Commerce.
