Expert has worked more than 33 years in the textile industry, with 27 years experience in nonwovens. His assignments have included research and development, technical service, new market development, and strategic business planning. Additionally, he effectively coordinated manufacturing, marketing, and technical activities. He has a strong understanding of the relationship and definition of web formations and is adept in sheet properties and end-use performance. Expert is also knowledgeable of the effect of denier per filament and fiber cross sections on structure functionality. To ensure maximum customer benefit, he has performed extensive studies on value-added processing of nonwoven webs.
Expert has worked with spunlace and spunbond polyester, polypropylene, and polyolefin. He has been involved in basic process and product developments of spunlace. In modernizing a product line and commercializing new business developments for spunbond polyester, he acquired a strong knowledge of the fabric.
Expert's experience in spunbonding is extensive; he has worked with spunbond polyester, polymer and binder fiber, coloration and additives, process elements, and quality management systems. He has studied property/performance relationships and has conducted sheet structure tests. Taking into consideration customer needs and requirements, he developed product specifications and value-added processing such as coating and laminating.
A number of effective fiber-based products have been developed and enhanced as a result of Expert's expertise. His knowledge of the effect of fiber cross section on coatings led to the commercialization of a new product and $12 MM new annual revenues. In leading the restructuring of a polyester product line, he helped create a $3 MM product revenue enhancement. The use of strong problem-solving skills, both at the internal process and final customer level, demonstrate his ability to function successfully in a team-based environment.
Expert guided the successful implementation of a new quality management system that resulted in a $5 MM reduced cost of quality.
He has worked with synthetic fibers such as spandex, polyester, and acrylic through manufacturing, converting, yarn spinning, weaving and knitting, fabric finishing, garment manufacture, and end-use testing. He is experienced in color, thermal, and oxidative stabilization of polymers. He helped develop bicomponent acrylic fibers. Laboratory tensile testing and stress-strain curves (tenacity, modulus) are also his areas of expertise.
Expert has post-treated nonwoven textiles to form coated or laminated products. He developed wet processing conditions for the acrylic finishing of spunlace polyester for surface stability and wash cycle durability. A development team headed by Expert commercialized a durable polypropylene extrusion-coated spunbond as an interleaving sheet in the manufacture of metal beverage containers. Annual new revenues of $8 MM resulted. He has studied the surface character of spunbond polyester sheets in combination of porosity and barrier properties. Additional developments with extrusion coating technology resulted in fiber-reinforced paper laminates with barrier properties for the industrial packaging market.
Expert has developed nonwoven composite structures, including spunbond polyester/spunbond polyester, spunbond/thermalbond, and spunbond/meltblown. He has identified the improved uniformity and functionality from multiple layers of lightweight materials, as compared to a single layer of a heavier weight sheet. His work also includes the development and basic studies of needlepunch composites containing super absorbents.
