INSTRUMENTATION; PROCESS CONTROL; CHEMICAL PROCESS CONTROL. Expert has 30 years of experience in engineering, design and specification of instrumentation and control systems for chemical and refining plants. These systems include distributed and computer control, and conventional pneumatic/electronic control consisting of single-loop and multi-loop controllers. His experience includes selecting and specifying pressure and temperature sensors, and level devices and flow elements, including transmitters, to meet process and installation requirements. CONTROL VALVES; FLOW ELEMENTS; CONTROL VALVE SIZING AND SELECTION. Expert has extensive experience and expertise in sizing and selecting process control valves, including globe, ball, and butterfly valves to meet process conditions and installation requirements. Self-contained pressure and temperature-regulating valves are also considered where suitable. Flow measuring elements used for control and metering applications, such as orifices, venturies, mass flow, and density, are sized, selected, and specified for all flow media. Expert's experience includes sizing and selection of control valves based on flow medium, liquid, gas, and vapor using standard sizing formulas and calculations. He also has determined noise levels generated with installation requirements to reduce noise level. SAFETY SHUTDOWN INTERLOCKS; ALARM MANAGEMENT; ALARM SYSTEM; ALARM SYSTEM DESIGN; FAILSAFE INTERLOCKS. Expert's experience includes the design of safety shutdown and operational interlocks, using the failsafe/fault tolerant principles to ensure safety of the process, plant equipment, and personnel protection. Circuits are designed using relays and/or programmable controllers, with input/output devices to interface with the field components. He has also designed and specified alarm management, including selection of alarms, sequence, and distribution and display of conventional back-lighted and computerized alarm arrangements. Expert's expertise includes articles and seminars on the design and application of failsafe interlock circuits as applied to the process and refinery industries. He has also designed and installed systems using programmable controllers, relays, and solid state logic. SHORT COURSES AND SEMINARS. The following short courses and seminars have been presented as part of corporate training, technical assistance programs for foreign companies and continuing education for engineers and plant supervisors.
