FLUID MECHANICS; FLUID BOUNDARY LAYER. Expert has spent much of his career solving Euler, Navier-Stokes, and Bernoulli equations
For their application to complex flow fields such as gas and liquid jets, channel
flow design, turbulence, flow separation and mixing processes, and micro-scale fluidic systems. NEWTONIAN FLOW. Both experimental and computational methods have been used
by Expert to study internal and external flows of Newtonian fluids. Some
emphasis has been in the area of drag and pressure drop reductions.
INTERNAL FLUID DYNAMICS. Expert has done extensive experimental and numerical simulations of two- and three-dimensional flows with and without heat transfer and has helped design micro-fluidic systems.
COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMICS; TURBULENT FLOW. Expert has developed two and three dimensional codes for the solution of laminar and turbulent flows. He
has played a large role in advancing turbulence models for complex flows.
He has also used several of the existing commercial codes, modifying them for
complex three dimensional and transient applications.
FLUID FLOW MEASUREMENTS. Much of Expert's recent career has been devoted to developing new optical instrumentation methods for highly accurate fluid flow measurements. His experience includes Laser Doppler anemometry, hot wire anemometry, holographic imaging, PIV, and several flow visualization techniques.
CONVECTIVE HEAT TRANSFER; FORCED CONVECTION; HEAT CONVECTION. Expert has studied convective heat transfer for over 20 years, and has written more than 50 technical papers in the field. Recently he has focused on transient
forced and natural convection problems with application to high heat flux
conditions. New methods have been studied, such as surface geometry
modifications, to enhance convective heat transfer.
NUCLEAR REACTOR FLOWS. Expert has set up and studied flow enhancement in
nuclear rod bundles. This work includes pressure drop, flow visualization,
and velocity measurements.
DYNAMIC HEAT TRANSFER. Dynamic heat transfer effects have been a part of
Expert's research, especially relative to external surfaces with time dependent
heat generation.
EJECTOR PUMPS. Expert has experience designing and testing several types of
ejector pumps used in major national laboratories for transport of
hazardous fluids. He has also designed and tested two-phase supersonic nozzles and
diffusers used in ejector pumps, and has developed models for two-phase
flow operation.
AIR EJECTORS. Expert's research has involved new designs and testing of air
and water ejectors for multi-phase pump applications.
OPTICAL INSTRUMENTS; INTERFEROMETER. Much of Expert's research over the past 15 years has been in the development of new optical methods for the
Measurement of fluid flow and heat transfer. He has designed and implemented two and
three dimensional interferometers for fluid flow and heat transfer measurements.
FLOW VISUALIZATION. Expert has used novel visualization methods (based on
holographic imaging and other methods) to study single and multi-phase
flows.
