He has both industrial and academic experience, and is active in the American Ceramic Society, having held all positions in the Electronics Division, including past Chair. Expert directs an electrical ceramics research program at the Expert's University at Urbana-Champaign and has published over 265 papers and graduated over 50 Ph.D. and M.S. graduate students. Most of the research has been involved with advanced materials processing through the use of new and improved starting materials and the control of microstructure. He is an expert on structure-property relations. In the past decade he has pioneered the chemical-solution processing of ferroelectric thin films at greatly reduced temperatures, which has led to materials integration with semiconductors and new products. Other notable achievements by his research group include the crystal growth of highly efficient piezoelectric materials, and novel methods of additive patterning by microcontact printing with self-assembled monolayers. Expert continues to be at the forefront of developments in advanced materials processing of electrical ceramics and is a consultant to industry. |
