Expert has spent over 40 years in corrosion prevention for the marine industry. His main interest is in hull husbandry for waterborne and dry docked ships to improve performance, conserve fuel and reduce maintenance costs. He has expertise in the development, testing, and evaluation of antifouling coatings for ship hulls. He is thoroughly familiar with various commercial paints containing EPA approved biocides. He has supervised the application of antifouling paints and has personally inspected antifouling paints on ships in service. Expert is knowledgeable of hard film and ablatable copper-based and tin-based AF paints, as well as antipolluting AF paints based on fluorocompounds and silanes. He is thoroughly versed in underwater mechanical removal of fouling by brushes and jets and other aspects of hull husbandry. He has intimate knowledge of the effects of micro (slime) and macro (grasses and shell) fouling on hull roughness and heat transfer in heat exchangers. He has performed failure analysis on deteriorated coatings and has access to basic starter formulating procedures for new coatings development. Expert has developed new materials to extend the life of skirt seals for air-cushion vehicles. He is familiar with electrochemical processes such as descaling corrosion products, use of calcareous deposits, and chlorine generation for slime control.

Expert has been intimately involved in all phases of the design, development, testing, evaluation, operation, and maintenance of cathodic protection systems. These have been used in ships, pumps, heat exchangers, pleasure crafts, pier structures, offshore drilling platforms, and submerged pipelines. He has direct experience with impressed current systems using platinum-titanium anodes, lead-silver, high silicon iron and grafite anodes. He also has direct experience with galvanic systems using zinc, aluminum, and magnesium anodes. Expert has invented many unique anode designs and cathodic protection components for a wide variety of applications.
 •

cathodic protection

Expert has done substantial work in the area of assessing intensity cavitation damage to struts, hulls, propellers, pump impellers, heat exchangers, and other high velocity water handling equipment. He is an expert in materials selection, coatings selection, and cathodic protection to control cavitation damage. He is familiar with design for the prevention of cavitation damage.
 •

cavitation erosion

Expert is an expert in all aspects of galvanic corrosion in marine environments. He is capable of selecting materials, coatings, operating environments, and electrochemical techniques to prevent and control galvanic corrosion and associated phenomena. He is completely familiar with accelerated and natural site exposure testing of the galvanic corrosion of metals. He has had much direct experience with assessing and controlling damage from galvanic corrosion, including differential concentration and aeration cells.
