POWDER METALLURGY MATERIAL; POWDER METALLURGY PROCESS. Expert has extensive experience with designing and developing ultra-clean processes for plasma rotating electrode process (PREP) manufacture of aerospace quality metal powders. These materials are also used in medical applications. He is conversant with the consolidation of powders by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) to form 100% dense near net shape objects. He has had considerable interaction with clients to assist in their application of these materials.

COLD FORMING; COLD ROLLING. Expert is familiar with deep drawing of gold filled, solid gold, and silver blanks to form precursor hollows for subsequent tube drawing applications. He has worked with the cold rolling of slab and cast bar from greater than 1-inch thickness to sheet and foil in a multiplicity of precious metal alloys and gold filled (clad) bars. Expert has also done cold rod rolling with these materials.

SANDWICH ROLLING. Expert assisted with the development of a roll-bonding set-up. This involved nickel (and other base metal) strip produced with strips of contact alloys (precious metals) used as feedstock for progressive tooling which stamped out electrical contact parts. He has has contact with a sendzimir mill for close tolerance strip.

METAL POWDER PROPERTIES. From his experience in the industry, Expert has gained knowledge of powder properties. He is familiar with particle size distribution (PSD), apparent density, tap density, pour rate, particle microstructure, particle microhardness, and particle surface modifications by in-situ process manipulations.

TITANIUM POWDER. Expert has worked with titanium powder in principal engineering alloys and in alpha-2 Ti3Al and gamma TiAl alloys. These materials are an industry standard for cleanliness and freedom from carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen pickups. He has used titanium powder for manufacturing products by the plasma rotating electrode process and has been granted patents pertaining to titanium powder generation.

WIRE DRAWING; MULTIFILAMENTARY SUPERCONDUCTOR. Expert developed wire drawing processes to make multiple filament composites. He has some knowledge of high speed wire drawing. He has numerous patents associated with wire drawing, one of which involves the basic filamentary superconducting wire construction popular today (US Patent 3625662).

WIRE PROCESS METALLURGY; METAL EXTRUSION. Expert has considerable experience with wire process metallurgy and metal extrusion. He used extrusion as the preliminary step for filament carrying wire structures in developing a filament manufacturing process. He has also used extrusion with great success to make near net sections of various cross-sectional shapes, clad materials, densified powders for medical applications, and weld wires.

MECHANICAL METALLURGY. Expert has very broad knowledge of mechanical and general metallurgy which covers corrosion studies in alkali metals (Na, NaK), magnesium alloys, precious metals for jewelry and electrical uses, heat treatment and working of gold alloys, clean powder manufacture, development of ultrafine filament-making process with niobium alloys, and stainless steel and titanium metallurgy.
