Industrial projects usually involve in-plant noise problems or improvement of the general plant noise environment. Often this is the result of regulatory action, or the threat of action, by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) under 29CFR1910.95. This regulation prescribes maximum allowable workplace noise exposures. Expert's industrial experience includes single-event, integrated and spectrum measurements, dosimetry and noise exposure calculation, measurement and analysis of specific machinery and process noise sources, OSHA compliance programs, and OEM product noise consultation.

environmental acoustics expert
noise statute expert
sound propagation expert
atmospheric absorption expert
atmospheric attenuation expert
ambient noise expert |
Expert has extensive experience in the area of environmental (outdoor) noise issues. His clients have been both the "noise generators" as well as those who are impacted by noise. Specific experience includes the estimation or measurement of single-event or integrated noise levels, noise impact evaluation and assessment, community response prediction, noise mitigation programs, and the development and implementation of noise ordinances and regulations. Many of his projects in this area involve determining the impact of existing or proposed outdoor activities such as race tracks, shooting ranges, amphitheaters, and highway projects. He has recently done considerable work on issues relating to outdoor amphitheaters and amplified music propagation. Expert has authored a comprehensive noise ordinance, and works with municipalities and other entities to establish and implement noise-related programs and statutes.

|
legal liability expert |
Noise-related litigation is an exceptionally difficult area for lay persons due to the technical complexity of the subject and the almost total lack of consistent regulatory oversight. Expert has experience in forensic consultation including background research, reports, and expert witness testimony. He has provided testimony in noise-related litigation, both in trial and deposition venues.

American Acoustical maintains an inventory of sound level meters, spectrum analyzers, and various support and accessory equipment. This equipment is available for use on client projects as required. Some of our measurement capabilities include: background noise, overall, full-octave and 1/3 octave sound pressure levels, integrated sound pressure levels (Leq, DNL, CNEL, L%, TWA), reverberation time (RT60, EDT), energy-time domain measurements (direct sound, early/late reflections, ratios) and energy-frequency measurements (spectrum analysis). |

Expert notes that "acoustics" is the science of sound and vibration. "Noise control" involves the application of acoustical principles to reduce noise levels or to mitigate their impact on individuals or property. Although it is not always apparent, acoustics and noise play an important role in many facets of our society. Transportation and environmental noise impacts everyone, and the need to control these sources is becoming an important public priority. Of equal concern are issues of interior sound quality, privacy and communication, that affect us in our homes, our workplaces and in public facilities. Churches, auditoria, courtrooms, and theaters must obviously be designed for good acoustical performance. Likewise, schools, hospitals, offices, condominiums and industrial facilities often require innovative measures to improve acoustics or control unwanted noise. Many acoustical and noise control problems have feasible and cost effective solutions. Potential problems can often be identified and addressed when a project is still in the design stage. Acoustical consultants deal with these issues as they attempt to create controlled sound environments where people can comfortably live, work and enjoy life. |
