ROOF SYSTEMS. Expert has worked with low slope, insulated roof assemblies using mechanical fasteners, adhesives, or ballast to provide attachment and resist wind uplift; he has also designed steep roofing, domes, and standing seam metal roof assemblies. All of these systems have interacting components to weatherproof and often insulate the top surface of a building. The roof system separates the interior environment from the exterior elements. ROOF MATERIALS. Expert has worked with asphalt, modified bitumen, and coal tar pitch built-up roofs, plastic (PVC), rubber (EPDM), Hypalon, metal, sprayed urethane foam, and other single ply roof materials, as well as felts made from asbestos, organic material, polyester, and fiberglass, and acrylic and urethane coatings. He has published numerous technical articles on the design, use, and performance of these materials under various conditions, including fire and wind. RIGID INSULATIONS. Expert has done extensive work on expanded polystyrene, extruded polystyrene, urethane, polyisocyanurate, phenolic foam, perlite, and fiberglass rigid insulation boards used as part of the thermal envelope of a building system. His work also includes extensive testing of physical and thermal properties, including the establishment of design values for these materials. BUILDING STRUCTURES. Expert has worked with a variety of commercial, industrial, and specialty structures, including roof and wall panel systems composed of precast concrete, structural steel, light gage steel, poured concrete, gypsum panels, wood deck systems, dome structures, and plaza decks, including design, investigation, and field testing. MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING. Expert has extensive laboratory and field experience in the development and testing of wall panels and roof system components for physical, structural, and thermal performance in a variety of temperature and humidity conditions. FOAM INSULATION. Expert has extensive design, laboratory, and field experience using a variety of these materials in wall and roof systems. SINGLE PLY MEMBRANE. Expert has significant design, laboratory, and field expertise using a variety of single ply membrane systems. BITUMEN. Expert has conducted extensive field and laboratory testing of bitumens used in roof materials. BUILT-UP ROOF. Expert has designed many built-up roof systems. He also conducted numerous field investigations and laboratory tests. WIND LOADS. Expert has conducted numerous studies on wind loads on wall and roof elements using ASCE, ANSI, and FM guidelines. NON-WOVEN POLYESTER MAT. Expert has extensive laboratory and field experience with non-woven polyester mat embedded in hot bitumen, cold process, or prefabricated modified bitumen sheets for use as a roofing material.
