METAL CASTING. Expert's responsibilities have always involved solidification, whether the product was an engineered casting, remelt, or wrought alloy billet or block. His experience includes alloy, process, and product development. He is also knowledgeable of ingot casting technology. METALLURGY; CASTING. Throughout his career, Expert has been involved with the metallurgy and practice of melting, alloying, melt treatment (fluxing, degassing, filtration, additions for structure control) and solidification of aluminum alloys. More recently melt loss, dross, dross processing, and waste treatment or disposition have become areas of focus. His specializations are supplemented by extensive experience in metal casting. Casting processes with which he is familiar include dry and green sand; composite; plaster and investment; permanent mold; low pressure and vacuum; pressure die; squeeze; continuous strip and slab; continuous rod; horizontal and vertical DC; and electromagnetic casting. He is also knowledgeable of air injection and low head casting processes as well as semi-solid forming. Expert has direct product experience in extrusions; forgings; wire, rod, and bar; flat rolled products (sheet, plate, foil); particle and powder; super purity aluminum; and tooling plate. MOLTEN METAL PROCESSING. Expert has been deeply involved in, and has extensive experience in, all phases of molten metal melting, alloying, and processing, including degassing and filtration. HEAT-TREATABLE AND COMMON ALLOY FABRICATION AND PROCESSING. Expert has experience in most processing areas, including the thermomechanical treatment of rolled, forged, extruded, and drawn semifinished products. MOLTEN METAL SAFETY. Expert has participated in the development of engineering and operational standards for safe molten metal handling and explosion prevention. METAL MATRIX COMPOSITES. Expert has experience with metal matrix composites involving molten metal and powder processes and products for composite structures. SKIM/DROSS PROCESSING; WASTE DISPOSITION. A significant portion of Expert's work has been in melt loss control programs and in cost and environmental aspects of dross processing. ALUMINUM METALLURGY. For over three decades, Expert has been involved in nearly every aspect of aluminum metallurgy and quality system development, including the recommendation of material combinations for specific applications, material assessment by indirect, destructive, and nondestructive methods. In addition, he has specialized in processing and product developments which comprehensively define current capabilities and future potentials. ALUMINUM ALLOY PROPERTY. Expert has expertise in aluminum and aluminum alloys, and has several publications in these areas. He is also familiar with hydrogen in aluminum, recycling of aluminum, and vacuum testing of aluminum alloys.
