With a masters degree that concentrated on fluid mechanics and having worked as a research engineer in a hydraulic laboratory, Expert has considerable knowledge of hydraulic delivery systems. He has worked with both closed conduit and hydraulic pressure systems such as pipes, tunnels, and penstocks as well as open channel systems such as rivers, canals, diversions, and regulating outlets.

With 30 years of turbine-related experience, Expert has detailed knowledge of field testing, both absolute efficiency testing and relative efficiency testing of all types of hydraulic turbines. This type of testing may be done to verify the prototype performance compared with the model prediction, to assure compliance with procurement specifications, to optimize the efficiency of an individual hydraulic turbine, or to optimize the energy output of a complete hydroelectric plant.

Expert is well versed in the design, procurement, installation, and testing of all types of hydraulic turbines for electric energy generation. These machines, most commonly referred to by their types of runners, include the Pelton and cross-flow type of impulse turbines, as well as the Francis, Kaplan, and fixed-blade propellor type reaction turbines (single and double regulated).

Expert authored the feature paper, "Bernoulli Theorm: Sharing Its History and Applications," HYDRO REVIEW, Volume 19, Number 5, August 2000, Pages 110-118. This paper chronicled the history of the theorem's development, analytically derived Bernoulli's equation from Newton's Second Law, and gave a recent equation developed by the author to calculate the velocity head correction factor.
