Expert has experience in statistical methods. This includes performing and consulting on the statistical analyses of data from surveys/opinionnaires, manufacturing/assembly control charts, product/process experiments, engine/vehicle testing/emissions, sales volumes, economic indicators, budget forecasting, and life testing. She has used multiple regression for forecasting in education and industry. She compared data distributions using curve fitting techniques such as the least squares method with normal, Weibull, and other distributions. She has also developed more efficient and lower cost systems. She has performed hypothesis testing with a degree of confidence determined a priori in many statistical studies. Expert has taught statistics in high school and in two university graduate schools. She has also assisted people in statistical methods software selection.
Expert has performed statistical software evaluations and has remained informed on current statistical software listings. She has been chairman of an educational mathematics department computer system selection committee. She has specified computer systems for emissions testing and consulted on, maintained, and modified a Chrysler statistical package. She has assisted many companies on software selection, networking alternatives, and configurations for statistical methods, SPC, and DOE systems.
Expert consults and offers training in quality philosophies based on quality experts such as Deming and Juran. She analyzes Human Organizational Resource Development Surveys. She consults and trains in TQM tools such as SPC, DOE, QFD, problem solving tools, and brainstorming techniques.
Expert consults and offers training in DOE through her own company (USI) and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). She has written a DOE training manual and has developed DOE training aids. She was chairman of an Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) DOE committee. Expert has performed and consulted on DOEs for education and many different industries. She blends classical and Taguchi techniques and assists people on DOE software selection.
Expert consults and offers training in SPC through her own company (USI) and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). She has written a SPC training manual as well as developed SPC training aids. She is a member of the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Group at AIAG and was a memeber of SAE's Statistical Methods for Quality Improvement Committee until it was disbanded. She has made a number of recommendations to clients on SPC data acquisition methods/analysis, computerization software and configurations, and charting methods which include short run. These clients have included many automotive plants, automotive suppliers, and other industries.
During SPC training, Expert has taught a number of measurement systems methods and techniques of analysis. These have included data integrity and Gage characteristics such as discrimination, accuracy, repeatability, reproducibility, stability, and linearity. She has also developed workshops during class to perform Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility Studies (Gage R&R). Expert also developed a separate course for this topic. She has guided many plants in these methods and has suggested alternative measurement techniques to improve their system.
Expert compares the designs and analyses used in classical and Taguchi approaches to experimentation. She also explains how and why Taguchi uses the Loss Function and the Signal-to-Noise concepts.
Expert uses various types of data acquisition in both her statistical process control and measurements systems methods work. The importance of data integrity, gage studies, operator training, gage calibrations, and the appropriate gage scale are stressed. She presents data acquisitions from simple inspection through various levels of computerization.
Expert uses linear regression to find the best fitting line in her statistical methods and design of experiment work. She also expands this to multiple regression when appropriate.
Expert mixes two or more ingredients with the amount of each expressed as a proportion of the mixture. The response is a property of the mixture but not dependent on the amount of the mixture. Examples of such products are paints, gasoline, foods, and pharmaceuticals.
Expert focuses on the quality philosophies of Deming, Juran, and Taguchi and how to apply them to actual situations. Having a product in control is the first goal. Using these philosophies and related tools, the quality of a product of process is assured. The role of quality management is to encourage, recommend, and monitor these quality activities as well as to provide the time and resources for them.
Expert stresses total quality control in several of her classes. The goal is to build the quality into the product and process in the research and development phases.
Expert can assist in comparing data distributions to the Weibull function for process-capability analysis and for Weibull failure analysis using product lifetimes (failure times) data. If the distribution fits the Weibull function well, a formula can be derived for that distribution. This formula is used for assessing the capability of a product or to predict the proportion of failures at a specified time, or of the time when a specified proportion will fail.
