Expert has expertise in statistical data analysis and statistical packages, including statistical methods for engineers, industry, and biological and medical sciences. His major research area is statistical experimental design, and he has taught applied as well as theoretical aspects of experimental design courses. He has helped automotive companies computer companies to design experiments in Taiwan as well as in the United States. Expert teaches and conducts research in design of experiments.

Statistical process control has been the area of Expert's expertise which he has used most in helping clients in recent years. He has diagnosed and solved quality problems as well as set up quality control programs to meet quality standards for automotive companies. On a recent consulting project, he helped an automotive company to improve their eight-cylinder engine production quality.

Expert notes that regression analysis is one of the popular tools for studying the relationship between response and predictors, and that he has frequently used it in consulting work. Recently, he helped a company study the uncertainty involved in the response through predictors and helped another company set up a regression model for a chemical process of interest. He has also been called upon to help clients fit models for situations where assumptions are violated.
Expert notes that the most effective way for quality improvement is "design-in-quality." He also states that important techniques involved in designing quality into products include experimental designs, Taguchi methods, and response surface methodology. He has done research projects and taught graduate-level courses in this area. He has also helped companies to design experiments and has provided lectures to engineers.
