Expert's career has been in the manufacture and use of textile fibers, mainly polyester. As part of this experience, he developed a general supramolecular structural model to relate manufacturing process conditions to final fiber properties -- developing novel test methods when necessary. This model applies to fibers of any composition and is useful in determining which composition or modification is best suited to a particular application. It serves as well for optimization of process conditions, from fiber formation (spinning, drawing) through intermediate steps (e.g., crimping, texturing) to fabrication and finishing of final products. The concepts can be usefully applied to other areas of polymer technology such as films or molded products.

Expert holds three fiber patents. They are in the areas of dye control via polymer composition, novel bi-component fiber, intermittently variable yarn dyeing.

|
Expert worked for several years with a mid-sized textile company in instituting a SPC system. This experience gave him insight into the total quality management philosophy, particularly some of the reasons it rarely works as advertised and some of the steps that are needed so it will.
