Expert specializes in air pollution assessment and control, including aerosols, ambient air, indoor air pollution control, and the control of air pollution from stationary sources. He has been involved in the development of activated carbon fibers to adsorb organics from gas streams and the oxidation of gaseous contaminants with plasma. He also helped in the development of adsorbent carbons from waste tire for natural gas storage and multi-component air pollution control. He is currently working on Hg and toxic organic compound removal from gas streams.

He has conducted research and published on laboratory and ambient aerosols in areas such as measurement, monitoring, detection, and characterization. Recently, he performed measurements of aerosol optical properties in marine air.

Expert is familiar the physical and chemical properties of ambient aerosol chemistry including the ubiquitous nature of ambient metastable aerosol. He studied the properties of ambient aerosol particle chemistry at a mid-latitude northern hemispheric site as it relates to global climates. Additionally, he has measured aerosol particle sizes as well as the crystallization humidities of ambient aerosols.

Expert's experience with stationary sources includes flue gas treatment and desulfurization, sulfur dioxide controls, and nitrogen oxide controls. He has evaluated the simultaneous removal of SO(2) and NO from simulated flue gas streams via combined plasma photolysis.
