|
biological oxidation expert
combustion expert
combustion chemistry expert |
Expert has made extensive use of the electron spin resonance spin-trapping technique for studying gas-phase free radicals. He has developed techniques for the detection, quantitation, and partial identification of reactive organic radicals in complex gas-phase mixtures, including tobacco smoke, smoke from burning natural and man-made materials, and thermal decomposition of perfluoropolymers. His major interest in these studies has been the relationship between the toxicity of these various combustion gases and their free-radical content. |
|
electron paramagnetic resonance expert
electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy expert |
Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy is one of the principal techniques used by Expert to study free radical mechanisms in chemical and biological systems. He has developed computer techniques for the analysis of complex EPR spectra. He has also used both digital and analog methods for the enhancement of signal-to-noise and is currently studying new techniques of weak-signal detection. Expert is an expert in the use of the spin-trapping technique in studies of reactive species. The systems he has studied range from gas-phase models for polluted air to biological systems, including whole animal models. He has also used the spin labeling technique to study the effects of membrane lipid oxidation and of antioxidants on membrane characteristics. Expert is using electron spin resonance spectroscopy to study both stable and highly reactive organic free radicals. He is an expert in the use of the spin-trapping technique in studies of reactive species. The systems he has studied range from gas-phase models for polluted air to biological systems, including whole animal models. He also has considerable experience with the design of novel nitrone spin traps. |
