Expert has over 20 years of experience in alkaline papermaking, using rosin size, alkeny succinic anhydride (ASA), and alkyl ketene dimer (AKD). He successfully supervised the conversion of one mill to ASA papermaking and one to AKD papermaking.
Expert's expertise has been acquired through 35 years in the field of paper chemistry. His work has involved the normal wet-end chemistry and associated materials such as retention aids, starches, deposit control chemicals, and their interactions with fibers and fillers. He is also knowledgeable of starch, latex, and various sizing materials used at the paper-machine size press.
Expert has extensive experience with product development, process development, quality control testing, and manufacturing and environmental control of fine and specialty papers. He also has experience making paper to meet specified color standards. He has been involved in the manufacture of pastel to deeply-colored grades of paper using basic, direct, and cationic dyes in both acid and alkaline papermaking systems.
With over 21 years of experience in wet-end chemistry, Expert can answer a variety of questions associated with wet-end paper operations. He has worked with single- and dual-component retention aid systems, deposit control systems for both acid and alkaline papermaking, optimization of both ASA and AKD sizing systems, and interactions of wet-end chemicals with virgin and recycled fibers and fillers (clay, calcium carbonates, TiO2, and others).
Expert is experienced with the manufacture of fine and specialty papers using recycled paper products and recycled pulps in both acid and alkaline papermaking systems. He installed a "stickies control" system for recycled paper grades saving considerable costs in down time.
