CHRONOTOXICITY OF INSECTS. Expert has studied insect movement and oxygen consumption (a measure of metabolism) in mosquito larvae, cockroaches, and flour beetles. This work helped determine the insect's sensitivity to insecticides.

INSECT TOXICOLOGY; DICHLORODIPHENYLTRICHLOROETHANE (DDT). Many years of Expert's research have centered on the many immediate and persistent effects of DDT along with related chlorinated hydrocarbon insecticides. Included were effects on different species as well as enzymatic studies, especially on the ATPase system. Additional field and laboratory studies included Bacillus thuringiensis as a replacement for more hazardous insecticides. Expert taught an advanced course on insecticides and their action that included pyrethrum and pyrethroids.

INSECT. He has provided information on household insects, fruit and vegetable insects, and livestock insects, with research on the latter group. Additional research has involved the study of insect rhythms in relation to effective times for insecticide use. Rhythmicity measured included activity, oxygen consumption, and sensitivity to insecticides. Expert has taught aspects of the economical importance of insects and the toxicology of insecticides for 30 years.
